A Silent Seminar

Wladia (interepreter) and Jackson, our deaf instructor, poured themselves out to teach a 20 hour intensive course on basic sign language.

For about 3 years, the Christ is Life Church has been praying about a ministry to the deaf here in MossorĂ³. We are unaware of any churches that are currently evangelizing deaf people, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a need.

Over a 2 1/2 day period, 29 people from the Christ is Life Church and the ALPHA Educational Center attended the 20 hour intensive seminar in basic sign language. Of the 29 who participated, 21 of these completed the course!

The practical application: a skit using only sign language. No speaking allowed!!

The teachers who presented the seminar kept everyone's attention by teaching basic signs, songs, jokes, and verses. They spoke on the culture and mindset of the deaf and deaf ministries. There were two tests and an activity (drama) for practical application.

Everyone "waving" their hands in applause.

Wladia demonstrates a conversation between two deaf people about going to church.

We are excited about reaching out to the deaf in the community and how God is going to use us. Some will never be able to "hear" the Gospel but we can SHOW them WHO gave HIS life so that they might live.
